Five MAX customers are currently investing in their community and their futures by working with not-for-profit community organisation Capricornia Catchments.
Committed to nurturing the region’s natural resources, Capricornia Catchments is located in central Queensland and takes a holistic approach to taking care of the local area.
Rocky Flora is one of Capricornia Catchments’ current restoration projects, located at Fraser Park Lookout at Mt Archer - a popular destination for locals and tourists.
Our five customers are working hard to support the restoration project through the regeneration of bushland. The efforts are centred around encouraging natural regermination, weed control, brush cutting, planting and caring for new plants, laying mulch and litter removal.
Janeen Whiting of Capricornia Catchments reflects on the contribution of the team to the project:
“With the increased manpower our Project Officers have certainly seen a greater increase in the beautification of the area,” she says.
“With the community and tourists visiting Mt Archer, the team is always complimented on their good work and how lovely the area is looking,” says Janeen.
Customer Nicholas is grateful for the opportunity to volunteer in such a valuable local venture and appreciates being treated as one of the team.
“Capricornia Catchments has been an absolute pleasure to work with. I’ve always been treated respectfully and fairly,” he says.
“The work is fulfilling and I’ve always felt a sense of pride completing tasks and looking back over the work I’ve done,” says Nicholas.
“I love it here. I love learning about nature, different weeds and plants. The people are great and everyone is enjoying their time…and this view is hard to beat,” says Andrew.
“They have shown such a keen interest in the work and the industry while taking pride in seeing the improvements they are making,” shares Carla.
For Workforce Australia participants, Work for the Dole provides an opportunity to contribute to their local communities and build skills to help find ongoing work.
The partnership with Rocky Flora gives MAX customers the opportunity to volunteer with a grassroots community organisation, committed to improving the local area.
