Islamic Women's Association Australia Chief Operating Officer Galilea Abdulsalam and representatives with Islamic Council Queensland President Habib Jamal and MAX Solutions Managing Director Deborah Homewood.
A community Iftar hosted by MAX Solutions at the Beenleigh Entertainment Centre on Wednesday 15 May saw more than 150 locals, employees, family and friends break fast together.
The evening aimed to foster a better understanding and appreciation of the diverse cultures within the community, with an opportunity for MAX employees to learn more about Ramadan and the Islamic faith over a shared meal.
Islamic Council of Queensland (ICQ) President Habib Jamal, Islamic Women’s Association Australia (IWAA) Chief Executive Officer Galilea Abdulsalam and Muslim Charitable Foundation (MCF) President Yusuf Khatree were in attendance, along with Multicultural Development Australia (MDA) staff and clients, MAX Solutions family and local Beenleigh residents.
MAX Solutions donated $3,000 to the Muslim Charitable Foundation to support their work providing relief and welfare for families and individuals in times of need.
MCF President Yusuf Khatree said, “We are thankful for the generous donation made to our Foundation that will assist in improving the lives of our local community.”
MAX Solutions Managing Director, Ms Deborah Homewood, said the iftar event was a great example of our shared values of inclusion.
“MAX Solutions values diversity and difference and it is these very differences that makes the communities we operate in so great,” stated Ms Homewood.
Even though we are different, we recognise there is more to bring us together than divide us, and like all good families we come together to share a meal, conversation and friendship.”
For Muslims, Ramadan is a month of fasting, prayer, reflection and community. Ramadan began on Sunday 5 May this year and lasts 29-30 days depending on visual sightings of the moon. During the month of Ramadan Muslims will fast between sunrise and sunset with two main meals; suhoor before dawn and iftar after sunset.
