Multhana: Creating positive Indigenous employment opportunities

We are thrilled to be working alongside property services organisation ‘Multhana’ to give our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander customers access to a fantastic variety of job, training and professional development opportunities.

Founded in 2017 by Joseph (Joey) Wallace, Multhana’s purpose is to create training and employment for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the landscaping, construction and building maintenance and cleaning industries.

Multhana provides committed and professional staff to organisations such as CPB Contractors, Hutchinson Builders, Watpac, Lendlease along with BlueCare and Churches of Christ aged care facilities.

It is estimated that at its peak, the CPB Contractors Cross River Rail project will have around 70,000 workers and Multhana is proud to be providing cleaning services to the project, in a contract that will provide increasing and ongoing job opportunities for the Multhana workforce.

“We believe in people. When you come on board, you’re not just a worker, you are part of Multhana and we’ll look after you, we will train you, we will give you good opportunities to grow with us as we grow as well,” says Simon Lee, Safety and Compliance Manager at Multhana.

“Every time we go into new locations and start doing what we do, we have to go in and prove ourselves. And every time, we really knock people’s socks off. Because we really do it well. We train our people well. We work with pride and check all our work,” says Mr Lee.

Mr Wallace and Mr Lee expect that in the next six months, they will be hiring for 30-50 new cleaning positions and 10-15 more in landscaping.

MAX, led by Partnership Manager Stephen Jordan, will work closely alongside Multhana, to ensure that our customers are given the best possible opportunity to work with this first-class Indigenous employer.

“Joey is proud of his heritage and has created a company to support Indigenous people,” says Mr Jordan.

“Where people may have felt let down in the past, we know that Multhana won’t let that happen again. Our Indigenous customers can have faith that there is an employer out there that believes in them,” he says.

“Multhana is a fun company. We are growing fast. We are very clear about what we want to do. We want to be the best Indigenous company in cleaning, landscaping and building throughout Queensland and potentially throughout Australia,” says Mr Lee. If their first few years in operation are anything to go by, we’re confident they’ll achieve this goal.
